Bill O'Reilly breaks silence on podcast

The Hollywood Reporter's 2016 35 Most Powerful People In Media

"I am sad that I'm not on television anymore", O'Reilly admitted. "And we are working in that direction".

"I was very surprised how it all turned out", he said of his firing from Fox News. "I can't say a lot, because there's much stuff going on right now", O'Reilly said of his ouster.

O'Reilly's exit from Fox News came after The New York Times published an extensive report exposing multiple sexual harassment cases against O'Reilly, resulting in him and the network paying out upwards of $13 million in settlements to women who were not permitted to speak about the cases.

Monday night's episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight drew an average of 3.2 million viewers and 636,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo, beating all other cable news programs in the 8 p.m. hour in both total viewers and the key demo, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Later in the podcast, when O'Reilly read a viewer letter that praised him for being "Old School" by wishing Fox News the best, O'Reilly replied, "Look, I was there for 20 years and six months". My goal in life is to one day write a Batman screenplay.

The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court, adds eight former and current Fox employees to a case involving three former Fox workers and their accusations against a since-fired Fox financial executive. Typically, subscribers pay $4.95 monthly to listen, but O'Reilly said he plans to make this week's podcasts available for free.

O'Reilly says all proceeds are donated to charity.

An unapologetic Bill O'Reilly marked his return to the public sphere on Monday in his first comments since he and Fox News parted ways amid allegations of sexual assault.

Overall, Fox News revamped lineup along with Hannity at 10 PM (2.6M viewers, 543K in the demo) won Monday night with an average of 2.8M viewers and 583K in the demo, bettering No. 2 MSNBC (1.8M viewers, 424M demo) and CNN (955K viewers, 329K).

"Hey, I missed you guys", the former "King of Cable News" said at the opening of the online segment. Pivotal Research analyst Brian Weiser said in a recent note that the effects of the O'Reilly Factor going off the air should be slim to none, though it could potentially threaten Fox's pending $14.6 billion purchase of Sky plc (SKYAY).
